Three Strange Angels

Steve Reich at 70' Tour

In celebration of Steve Reich's 70th birthday, pioneering percussion ensemble 'Three Strange Angels' presents a programme around Reich's mesmerising classic, Sextet. Also featured are US and British works written in response or having strong aesthetic links to Reich’s music. With a vast array of percussion instruments from the more traditional marimba and vibraphone to radios, turntables and buzzers, 'Three Strange Angels' showcases the breadth of Reich’s musical world and his infectious fascination with the beauty of sound in all its forms.

'Three Strange Angels' is a percussion-based ensemble with strong roots in rhythmic contemporary music. Led by Richard Benjafield, it represents a renewal of his creative partnership with Chris Brannick, a co-founder of Ensemble Bash. The tour will take the ensemble to six cities and features composer/performer Graham Fitkin as keyboard player. A new version of Fitkin's 'Totti', inspired by the energy of the legendary footballer, opens the touring programme.
