Apartment House
Apartment House was created by cellist Anton Lukoszevieze in 1995. Since then its original and innovative programming has gained Apartment House the reputation as one of the most exciting contemporary music groups in Europe. Titled with reference to the Cage work Apartment House 1776, the group is of flexible instrumentation, allowing for a range of performance possibilities. Apartment House's performances have included world premières of music by a wide variety of composers. Notable portrait events have featured Christian Wolff, Jerry Hunt, Luc Ferrari, Dieter Schnebel, Christopher Fox, Laurence Crane, Helmut Oehring, James Clarke, Philip Corner and Richard Ayres. |

The ensemble enjoys a close relationship with Irish composer Jennifer Walshe, whose much talked about 'Barbie' opera, XXX_LIVE_NUDE_GIRLS has been performed in Dresden, Vienna, Oxford, Stuttgart, Bruges, Rome, Oslo and Viitasaari. The group is a regular feature on the European music scene, having performed at all major contemporary music festivals. Apartment House has made numerous broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 as well as Danish Radio, Swedish Radio 2, WDR Cologne, Deutschlandfunk, Berlin and ORF Austria. Their recordings and videos have been released on Mere Records (Jennifer Walshe’s XXX Live_Nude_Girls!), Cold Blue Music (Peter Garland String Quartets), Matchless Recordings (Cornelius Cardew Chamber Music) and Asphodel (Zbigniew Karkowski).
In 2011 Apartment House are performing a new series of UK concerts, Listen to This, in association with Sound and Music. Other highlights include two concerts at the Time of Music Festival, Viitasaari, Finland, a Cage Night at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, and a concert of music by Christian Marclay, Maurizio Kagel and Mariam Rezaei at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
2012 will see Apartment House perform major works by Saskia Moore and Ed Perkins as part of Sound and Music's Embedded scheme.
